Tesla has recently combined their electrical and structural capabilities to assist a Client with improved holding-down fixings to two indoor switchgear panels. A legacy design, already in place to support the new panels, was found to be non-compliant with latest Client seismic standards and new HD bolts were likely to clash with the webs of the existing steel supports:
To adequately anchor the new panels down, Tesla designed and detailed RHS stringers to fit inside the base flanges of each panel, with anchor bolts passing through the RHS and to new steel transoms fitted under the existing structures.
Interaction with Installation Crews resulted in a further improvement of using narrower transoms, improving cable access.
